How to Prepare for Modeling & Portfolio Photos
Updated March 2026
Agencies want to see your natural shape, clean features and range. Keep everything simple so that you — not the clothing — are the focus. Bring a range of looks; changes are expected.
Wardrobe
Bring fitted, simple pieces in neutral, solid colors that show your silhouette: a fitted tee or tank, slim jeans, a simple dress and well-fitting basics. If swimwear or fitted activewear suits your board, bring it. Seamless, nude-tone underwear keeps lines clean under lighter fabrics. Everything should be clean and pressed. Avoid logos, baggy clothing, busy patterns and heavy accessories.
Hair, Skin & Nails
Come with clean, natural hair and bring product to style it a couple of ways. For beauty shots, fresh natural makeup or bare, well-hydrated skin works best — bring your kit for touch-ups. Keep nails neat in a neutral tone. Hydrate your skin in the days before and don’t try new products if you’re sensitive.
What to Bring
Optional, but handy on the day:
- A hairbrush
- Touch-up makeup
- A wipe cloth for glasses
- A backup top, tie or jacket
